RAZIA SAID
folk (Madagascar)

Such is the abundance of unique flora and fauna to be found on Madagascar, that ecologists have referred to the sizeable Indian Ocean island as the 'eight continent'. Born and raised in Madagascar until the age of eleven, NY-based Razia Said rediscovered her island a few years ago and recorded the album ‘Zebu nation’ to raise awareness about the plight of her country’s beautiful nature. Running through her sound and original songs is a spirit that honours her Malagasy heritage.

PAPRIKA
Gypsy Jazz (Eastern Europe)
Hailing from Romania, Serbia and Slovenia, Paprika plays a hot and fiery blend of traditional gypsy music from the Balkans and Eastern Europe. Violinist Bogdan Vacarescu creates breathtaking melodies that range  from the silkily smooth to the impossibly furious, while guitar and bass provide an intriguing harmonic foundation of frequently odd rhythms with unpredictable solo eruptions. Meanwhile, the accordionists do the wild gypsy fling with abandon.
Tuesday 30 March - 20:00
3CANAL
Rapso (Trinidad)
Their music is based on the infectious indigenous Folk & Calypso rhythms & melodies mixed with East Indian, Latin, Reggae, Hip Hop and a diverse range of other global/pop/world influences with a special emphasis on power lyrics. The result represents the voice of the New World Order emerging from a country where racial & cultural hybridization and juxtaposition is the norm rather than the exception!
